My name is Judson Belding and I am from Augusta, Georgia. I am a junior at Clemson University with the plan to major in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology. I am not completely set on a specific job upon graduation but look forward to entering the field with Biologists and Foresters. I have been to every state in the United States except for Hawaii by means of vehicle travel. I am an avid outdoorsmen and passionately enjoy bowfishing and duck hunting.
1. A major issue with my future career field is that there is minimal contact between people which typically makes communication skills poor. The majority of the work force works alone, making the little communication very important. The ability to communicate is becoming more and more welcomed by those in hiring positions for these similar careers. The goal is to have highly qualified communicators in order to more accurately translate information from the field to the hands of others.
2. Personal contact is not the primary form of communication within my field but remains very important. Telephone conversations and notes are more popular forms of communication. The use of computers is becoming more and more prominent while cellular phone use and communication through radio devices remains common. The use of notes and findings are important for accurately sending information to those in demand of it.
3. Effective communication in my field involves the communication of accurate findings. The majority of communication revolves around data and facts so it is important for these to remain accurate. Clearly arranged and easily understood data keeps communication methods from failing.
4. An important skill would be able to explain information from many approaches but reach the same understanding in order to clarify for anyone who may lack understanding. A deep understanding of the field and terminology that remains common amongst other employees. Cell phone and computer knowledge would be important to effectively communicate while keeping organized notes is also of high priority.
